Waiting for The Light to go on?
Jack owns a business in California. It’s a large business, and Jack always reports his company’s federal payroll tax liability to the evil IRS. However, Jack pays only part of his payroll taxes. He does not have enough money to pay ALL his bills, so he withholds payrolls taxes from his employees’ pay, but uses that money to pay other bills.
Taking Responsibility for Your Mortgage
It may not be the best idea, but our government offers a mortgage relief plan to homeowners who face losing their homes. The Plan is this: a homeowner facing foreclosure is given the opportunity to have their mortgage interest rate reduced for five years. Here is a summary of the Plan. Do NOT consider this to be legal advice. DO consider it to be only a summary of the Plan. If you want legal advice, you will need to contact attorney T. Kevin Dougherty. If you want advice on your mortgage, contact your lender.
Surviving the Business Cycle
A famous photographer, Annie Liebovitz, recently learned she would not have to give up her real estate and the rights to her photographs (you know, those artsy photos of movies stars posing in thought- provoking ways, like sitting in a bathtub of milk). She is in debt for a $24 million loan. Annie needed money to maintain her lifestyle and had used her homes and her artwork as collateral. Her note came due, she couldn’t pay the money, the loan people tried to take her stuff. Such is life. Pay up or get out.
I don’t need a bankruptcy attorney. I can do it myself.
Suzie Q. was working two jobs and taking care of her mother and two small children. Suzie lived from paycheck to paycheck and was stressed out. She saw a commercial on TV about bankruptcy and thought it would be wonderful if those mean phone calls from that evil credit card company would stop. They had been calling every day, making her afraid to answer the phone. Suzie decided she would file bankruptcy by herself. How hard could it be?
